Still the theme is a sterling attempt and well worth trying out - even if only as a novelty. The downside is that, for now, Paul’s excellent Mac os theme only affects the look and feel of applications and app window borders. A Cinnamon desktop theme is not (currently) available (and the Cinnamon Spices website turns up nothing Apple-related). Undeterred, Paul has re-engineered his Mac os theme for Linux Mint, building a new Metacity theme that blends with the rest of the UI while still allowing apps using Client Side Decoration (CSD) to look the part too. “This has proven to be a much more difficult thing to do, because of the way Linux Mint uses Muffin as a window-manager, which has some drawbacks (like: Server-Side-Decoration, so no transparency in Nemo, ) and the ‘multitude’ of toolbars that take half the real-estate of the window… Reducing the size of them was my first priority.” Not that the task was entirely smooth sailing, as Paul points out: Having recently raved about his creepily accurate macOS Mojave theme I was thrilled to learn that Paul has made a custom version of his macOS mojave theme available for the Cinnamon desktop. Paul creates and maintains a bunch of well designed and well made themes for various GTK+ based desktop environments, including GNOME Shell, Budgie and, more relevant to those of you reading this post, Cinnamon. If you’re curious about MacOS Mojave but don’t yet want to commit to running it as your full time operating system, you can run macOS Mojave in a virtual machine like Parallels as described here, which allows you to experiment with the latest Mac OS version without impacting your main operating system. The regular version supports transparency, the Mint version does not Many Mac users will update to macOS Mojave right away, while some others may wait for a later update to Mojave (for example, a future update like macOS Mojave 10.14.1 or macOS Mojave 10.14.3). Some features new to macOS Mojave, like Continuity Camera which allows you to use your iOS devices camera to quickly snap photo into a Mac app, require iOS 12 to be installed on the associated iPhone or iPad. Failure to perform an adequate backup could result in permanent data loss. ![]() ![]() It is strongly recommended to backup a Mac before installing any system software update, the easiest way to do so for most Mac users is to setup and use Time Machine for backing up a Mac, which uses an external hard drive to store backups of the Mac and all user data. If you wish to create a bootable USB installer for macOS Mojave or make a copy of the installer file for backup or for using on other Macs without them having to download the installer, you should immediately quit out of the installer to do so. However, you do not need to run the installer right away, so if you want to make a copy of the installer file for use on another Mac or for other purposes it’s a good idea to do that right after downloading (remember, macOS installer applications will delete themselves after successfully running). ![]() When you finish downloading macOS Mojave from the Mac App Store, the installer will launch automatically to try and run the software update. The installer is around 5.7 GB to download from the Mac App Store. ![]()
